Though many signals indicate a gloomy fall, the upcoming trends offer a lighter, uplifting, more optimistic feeling with no shortage on variety.
Fall 2009 Fashion Fever presented by Fashion Group International indicated a vibrant color palette, such as cautionary yellow, and uncommon fabrics and textures. The abundance of trends are as numerous as the facets of a gemstone.
It is evident that jewels, rhinestones, sequins, palettes, and studs are making a comeback on garments and accessories that you would least expect. Dusted shoulders, arms of coats, embellished shoes and leg wear are examples of some of the pieces that dazzled their way down the catwalk. Though controversial, fur has also made a reprisal, garnishing shoes, handbags, arm warmers, and sweaters, even full on fur dresses and skirts.

Arte Puro had a launch party at Grandiose to celebrate their new website. The site itself has a minimalist design but love the interactive photo gallery. The highlight of the night was seeing their 2009 Spring line. The models obviously look great in them. See for yourself. You might see some familiar faces too from the Showoff event. What a night! I met a famous band (I think), famous photographers, agency folks, thefreshfiends.com and overall interesting kiddos. It all began with a short trip to the Lost Leaf to meetup with a photographer. While there I met a friend who was going to celebrate her birthday at Bar Smith. I told her I’ll see her there in a bit. The photographer I met was Edward aka PHOTOHOE. An exclusive interview with Edward coming soon. You can see some of his work next First Friday at the Dragonfly.

I recently had a chance to go to an event put on by the Fashion Group International® of Arizona, Inc. or FGI for short. The event, called Fall 2009 Fashion Fever, started with a pre-screening at the Calypso St. Barth located at the Biltmore Fashion Park. Many of the attendees were members of FGI and students alike.

What does Treasure Fingers mean? I’m at a lost myself, someone please tell me! But it doesn’t mean no one was there. I saw the FreshFiends crew upstairs, the PartyFoul DJ’s and the downtown influencers. If you want to network, this was the place to be that night. I started to take photos, then suddenly my flash went out. Batteries dead…one of the first thing you learn in photography class is to have extra batteries for your flash. I wasn’t paying attention during that class. I could only snag a few shots. Next time I’ll make sure to have batteries, I’m just bummed that I couldn’t capture the crowd fully, this night.

You heard of Nacho Libre, now let me introduce you to LOZ Luchadores! I was at Fuse on a Friday night and found myself standing next to them. The music was loud and I couldn’t really hear them talking to me. One of them introduce himself as LazLo, said he was the voice or translator. I didn’t understand what he meant until one of the DJ’s tried to have a conversation with me. Couldn’t understand what the hell he was babbling about until LazLo translated that he was trying to say “hi”.
Not being stereotypical here but could be because they’re Mexican?! Hey, don’t judge, I’m asian and feel like the minority everywhere I go. And no, I do not carry chopsticks with me. They told me they are a crew of three, two DJ’s and a manager, who are wrestlers who wore masks but plays good electro music.
I would go to their shows but worry if I should be wearing tights and a wrestler suit. Joking aside they are great, here is their 2009 mix by El Baggy PantZ and DJ Quien Sabe.

Endless Summer at the Clarendon Hotel was again a place to chill. I’m just a little bummed about the current no food service. This time when I went, I actually had to wait to get to the rooftop. Folks I don’t like the limit of only 49 people can be on the rooftop at a time. Another thing, can’t they lower the price for drinks?! All I’m asking is just a couple of dollars discount. You might get more customers. Ok, enough with my complaining.
