Driving down 7th St. passing McDowell you will pass a building that has been there since 1928. Some would contend to say it’s the only one left in Phoenix. Known for their “original soda fountain”, MacAlpine’s is also an antique shop. On the restaurant side of things, they serve sandwiches, soups, malts and seafood chowder. Walking in you might think you’ve just stepped back in time to the 1950s. (click on image for larger view)
Driving south you’ll pass Downtown ASU, TGEN building. The buidling lights up the night and the surrounding area. The architecture design is art and yet functional. (click on image for larger view)
The Children’s Museum of Phoenix is across the way. At night the building has ambient interior lights changing colors every few seconds. The building itself is the Monroe building. Built in 1913, designed by architect Norman Marsh, it was the grandest elementary school in Phoenix. In 1972 the school closed but was later turned into a DOD recruitment station.
